It’s that time of year when we showcase what the club has been up to in 2023.
the season started in April with the Army super sprint duathlons, held at Thruxton motor racing circuit. 3 super sprint triathlons on the hour, it produced some fast racing. The 3 of us did well in our respective age groups, With Tim Winning 55+, and 3rd guest, Andy was 2nd in his age group and 2nd guest, Stephan, in his first race for us, was 5th in his age group.
The next race was the Army team relays, on 24th may, held at Cotswold water park. We had 2 teams of 3 racing, Warm and breezy conditions made for some great racing, team 2 took 3rd place in the guest division and 15th overall, another great result for our club against the Military teams.
Next was the Army sprint triathlon at Queensford lakes near Oxford. We were only invited at the last minute, and Byron Crook was our only competitor. After a detour on the bike leg, along with several others, he took 1st placed guest. A great result for him.
We were invited to race the Thorpe park triathlon, a big discount being offered to HMPS tri members. Myself and Gary Craig raced on a very hot day. both taking 3rd in our respective age groups.
On july 5th, we once again raced the inter-services triathlon, a race we have been invited to for very many years. This time we took 4 athletes. Matt Curley, Andy Dunkerley, Tim Fowler and Stefan Farnworth.
Tim came in 11th, Stefan 12th, Andy 15th and Matt 25th. Stefan was also 3rd guest, and the only non Military on the podium. An excellent day's racing.
On August 4th I raced the triathlon at the world police and fire games in Winnipeg, Canada.
very hot conditions with a non wetsuit swim, i super fast bike course and a very hot run course, I came in winning gold in my age group, after last years bronze.
The WPFG are a superb event to attend, and the next one in 2 years time in Birmingham, Alabama.
Next up was the national team relays in Nottingham. 2 teams of 4, some old friends and some new to triathlon had a great day racing . Team 1 had our best ever result at the relays, 6th place in category. We always enjoy the relays, any standard is welcome and everyone enters into the spirit of the race and the social side of the day.
Our last race was the Army super sprint triathlons, 3 super sprints with an hour to complete each one and be in the water ready for the next one. Only myself took part, completing each triathlon well within the time limits.
During the season, members have raced all over the country and world, taking on (Ian Dickens) the Ironman 70.3 championships, and full distance World champs. Lee Cunliffe did Ironman 70.3 Mallorca. Stefan Farnworth and Chris Martin both took on Ironman Wales, their first ironman full distance races.
More reports and pictures are on our facebook page. please go and find it, ask to join, its members only! Look for Prison service duathlon and tri club (PSSA)
So, we have once again had a busy, and successful season. I'm looking forward to next season, and hopefully seeing a lot more of you at races in 2024.
Thanks to everyone who has raced with us in previous years, let's continue the momentum !!
