NATIONAL DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024
Knaresborough G.C.
The venue for this year’s doubles champs was Knaresborough G.C, North Yorkshire in October. The course was in fantastic condition for the time of year but the weather was against us and the rain was torrential all day. This is always a popular event, people wanting to have a nice day off work and enjoy the golf course, but the weather threatened to ruin the day, a credit to all 36 players who have travelled from all over the country for turning up.
The scores were high considering the conditions with defending champions Martin Briggs and Dave Hough coming in with a good score of 39 points but late on Mike Drury and Jordan Antcliffe came in with 40 points thinking they had won it, but the final pair on the golf course Chris Bailey and Chris Brookshaw also came in with 40 points, and with a better back 9 allowing them to take the trophy together for the first time.
The presentation was delivered by Dave Hough (NPSGA Secretary), he thanked Knaresborough G.C for their hospitality, Michael Ramsden (Golf Pro at Lees Hall) for the prizes, the players for entering and travelling, Steve Kay (NPSGA treasurer) for all his hard work and dedication to the role and the PSSA for their continuous support and funding as without that no golf tournaments would be possible.
It was then left to Dave to announce the winners in reverse order and Steve to present the PSSA National Doubles Championship trophy to Chris and Chris.
