Under the new very enthusiastic new management of Sharon Phillips from HMP Usk ably assisted by our new coaches Nigel Prothero and Jordan March, the HMPPS Ladies took on the very experienced British Fire Service Ladies in the unique setting of Prescoad Open Prison.
Although the score line wasn’t flattering to the Prison Service Team, they stuck to their task with enthusiasm, grit and determination. The fire service team was full of very experienced players with one of their players boasting international honours for England.
The day however was a great success, the game was played in a very sporting manner with the fire service running out comfortable winners, but the Prison Service team more than held their own in the after match games and celebrations (if not being clear winners).
This was a great end of season fixture and it will be interesting to see just how much improvement the HMPPS team will make – now under new management when the teams meet again next year.
The HMPPS team will now re-group and get ready for some summer training camps and early season fixtures in August/September. Well done to all players and the new management team, we look forwards to seeing the HMPPS ladies playing regular fixtures throughout England and Wales next season.
We also received a lovely message from the team manager of the British Fire Service Ladies Rugby Team.
