Match Report
The annual football match between a Leicester Representative team the Prison Service Vets took place recently in a keenly contested game.
On a warm bank holiday Monday the Prison Service fielded a new look team with many players making their debut, and for the first 30 mins looked very comfortable taking the lead through Luke Garner. The ball was half cleared by a Leicester player following a corner, when Luke managed to find the top corner from a side volley. The prison team then settled down and played some neat football until 5 mins before half time when they were caught napping at a corner and the Leicester side equalised. This obviously effected the Service team as they let in another sloppy goal before half time.
Half time – Service 1 – 2 Leicester
The first 20 mins of the second half saw Leicester take control of the game, taking advantage of injuries and fatigue in the service team to sore 2 more goals. Although the Service team pulled a goal back from a stunning free kick, they could not match Leicester’s younger substitutions. The final score was Service 2 – 6 Leicester. With Leicester retaining the cup for a further year. Although Leicester came out winners on the day the Service put up an excellent account of themselves, and the management team would like to thank all the players that attended the game that had travelled from all over the country on a Bank Holiday.
