Prison Service Volleyball now also knows as HMPPS Volleyball, supported by the PSSA, had the honour of hosting this years Crown Services Volleyball Tournament which was celebrating it’s 50th anniversary. The tournament were held at the LEAF studios in Bournemouth for three days of hard fought top quality volleyball by mens, ladies and mixed teams.
Recently HMPPS volleyball has had a boost in recruitment and for the first time after eight years, we entered the tournament with a full mens, ladies and mixed team. With a mixture of experiences and new recruits made the tournament fun challenge. The mens team had their work cut our playing against teams such as the Army who are coming to crowns after 2 weeks training camp, when we had 2 single day training dates and couple other tournaments. The mixed team had a mix of experience and new blood who find this tournament a challenge but they were the star’s of the tournament. Ladies team done an incredible job after only recently forming a team a few months ago with only 2 days of team training.
In total HMPPS Volleyball had a squad of 20 players, 10 of these Crowns virgins and quite a few less then 18 months of playing the game.
I would like to also take this chance and thank PEI Terry Oldrid who has announce his retirement from the team, who’s been managing the team for many years. He played a massive role in the team and it’s a huge loss to for us. We wish all the best for his new golf career.
